DC native Elva Lovoz injects the world with a dose of artistic fervor upon the meeting of her paint brush to its canvas. Wanting to express her individuality and dispel the myths of DC residents, some of which are that DC is not really a city, its residents have one style of dress, and that people from DC are a “little country,” Elva looks to breathe life into her city through her craft. She wants the world to know that she is different and that she stands out in that crowd of stereotypes. Elva is soft in tone, but boisterous in opinion and in her artworks. Often using a bold color pallet and themes in her artwork, she says that she, “dreams through these pieces of art,” fearlessly expressing all she is and what she longs to experience on her canvasses. Drawing inspiration from her life and heritage, she sites that not knowing of any artist’s particular work until attending school for one semester, “made my work original to me.” Original is definitely an adjective that can be used to describe such a force that will definitely breathe some life into the D.C. art world. You can currently view Elva’s works on display at the Pierce School Lofts now through March 28, 2009, in a collaborative show with business partner and fellow artist, Prudence Bonds, in a show called Lip Service. Also, check out some of her artworks over in our Auctions section. You can view and purchase some of her artworks there.
