DC Connection: Busboy's and Poets

Often me and my cohorts find ourselves partying, dining, shopping, and just cohabitating in Baltimore’s not so distant cousin city, Washington D.C. With that in mind we at SA conjured up a new tab for you guys to check out when browsing through the Edibles section, D.C. Connection. In our D.C. Connection we will bring you the latest in nightlife and dining in DC. With the economy being in its current dire state, quality dining at an affordable price remains to be at the forefront of our culinary ventures.

Our first trip down Baltimore Washington Parkway lead us to the highly talked about Busboys and Poets, a poetry lounge and restaurant that houses an intimate bookstore as well bar.

This place is lacking nothing in the way of atmosphere. There are multiple lounge areas where large parties can all congregate around a large communal table placed in the center of the seating area or couples or single parties can all sit and mingle and make new acquaintances. In the back there is a more formal dining area that is beautifully decorated with long white hanging curtains that separate the formal dining from the lounge areas and bar. The walls are decorated in an array of artworks giving the restaurant a sophisticated feel although one doesn’t have to worry about snobbery here, everyone was very friendly workers and patrons alike.

The food offered is the normal fare that one would equate to American cuisine and the hybrids that have been adopted from other cultures to be seen as our own. I ordered a chicken quesadilla, while my counterpart ordered fresh fruit and a crab-cake sandwich, the ultimate test for a restaurant in MD but being as Busboys is in DC I will give them a pass if the quality is not the best.

We didn’t have to wait long for our dishes and I wasn’t disappointed with the results. The quesadilla was just that, a quesadilla. The crab cake passed the test for quality and the fruit was fresh and good.

Overall Busboys offers a mind stimulating environment that boasts a diverse crowd of patrons. I would love to go back for one of their poetry slams. I’m sure the place would be a sight to see given the great energy I felt when there for dinner.
